The EmpowerHer Conference 2024, held on March 9, marked a significant stride in the ongoing effort to empower Afghan women through education and technology. Organized by a coalition of dedicated organizations, including FemTech, Women in Data Science | Upper Bavaria, Yes Techies, READ, Research and Education Association for Development (READ Tadqiq), Afghan Women Scholar, 21st Century Girls, Woman Empowerment Education Network (WEEN), Generation of Change (GoC), Woman Online University, and Par Cultural Center, the virtual event convened experts, activists, and stakeholders. The central theme, “Empowerment Through Education: Building a Resilient Future for Women". The conference featured insightful keynotes, interactive panel discussions, and fireside chats, providing a platform for experts, activists, and change-makers to address critical issues and share success stories.

Objectives 

The EmpowerHer Conference aims to be more than just a series of discussions; it seeks to be a catalyst for real change, inspiring action, and providing tangible solutions to empower Afghan women and girls to achieve their full potential. The main objective of this conference are:

  1. Highlight Current Challenges: To bring to light the existing barriers that Afghan women face in obtaining education and securing employment, and the impact of these barriers on their personal development and broader societal contributions.

  2. Foster Global and Local Collaboration: To unite global and local stakeholders, including NGOs, educational institutions, policymakers, and activists, to discuss and devise collaborative strategies that support the educational and professional advancement of Afghan women.

  3. Showcase Innovative Solutions: To identify and promote innovative and practical educational programs, tools, and methodologies that can be adapted and implemented to overcome the current challenges in Afghanistan.

  4. Enhance Digital Literacy and Access: To emphasize the importance of digital literacy and access to technology as pivotal factors in enabling Afghan women to pursue education and employment, particularly in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

  5. Empower Through Knowledge Exchange: To provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices that can empower Afghan women and girls to navigate and overcome current educational and employment obstacles.

  6. Build a Supportive Network: To establish a lasting network of support that continues beyond the conference, ensuring ongoing assistance, mentorship, and resources for Afghan women striving for educational and professional achievements.

  7. Advocate for Policy Changes: To advocate for policy changes and increased efforts from both local and global entities to remove educational and employment restrictions and support gender equality in Afghanistan.

The EmpowerHer Conference's opening segment established a robust tone, delving into the challenges Afghan women encounter in education and employment. Dr. Dawodi, highlighted the conference's vital goal: empowering Afghan women and girls, particularly on International Women's Day. She underscored the collaborative effort of the conference in addressing the pressing issue of "Empowering through Education" The event aimed to discuss the current status of women's education and employment in Afghanistan, find practical solutions for their empowerment through education, and enhance their position in society, particularly in STEM fields. In conclusion, she expressed gratitude for the warm participation of attendees and encouraged them to turn the conference into a positive step towards progress and empowerment for Afghan women and girls.

Responding to inquiries regarding the role of Information Technology (IT) in her professional journey, Shahira underscored its transformative impact. Technology played a pivotal role in connecting her with diverse job opportunities and expanding her professional horizons. The dynamic nature of the tech industry provided a platform for continuous growth and career advancement. Shahira provided valuable insights into the complex relationship between success and the surrounding environment.
